Angelique Guina, MA, LMHCA
I made my way into counseling after developing a deep curiosity about human emotions and behavior through past roles in eating disorder and addiction recovery, nonprofit food access, and retail and food service. People-facing roles opened my eyes to the suffering of others, and in witnessing the pain of others, I became aware of and curious about my own wounds.
I am the youngest daughter of immigrant parents. I have always felt things deeply, and was often shamed for it. In my early 20s, I came to realize there was a name for how I experienced the world: Highly-Sensitive Person (HSP), plus a little extra spice. My own journey processing my childhood, and my identity as a Filipino-American, neurodivergent woman in a white-centered world, deeply informs how I show up as a person, and as a therapist.
Being a human being is an incredibly humbling experience, full of learning and accepting that who we are and what we need is ever evolving. My hope is support others in building a relationship with themselves that is rooted in compassion and understanding, to ultimately create more opportunities for joy. Life is hard enough.
In therapy, I’ll laugh with you, cry with you, teach you skills, challenge you when appropriate, and hold space for everything you bring.
